S.C. Johnson Community Center

« 1 of 11 »

SC Johnson donated a check in the amount of $25,000 in October 2016 to help build the Community Center.
This was an amazing contribution, but we are still short of our goal to finish the Center. Please consider donating today!

The SC Johnson Community Center will be available 24-hours a day, seven days a week to Veterans who are living in the James A. Peterson Veterans Village. The facility includes restrooms, a laundry room, four showers, a full kitchen with food pantry access (during normal business hours), a recreation area with pool table, TV, and couches as well as an area available for peer led support groups. Meals will be provided regularly using the Outreach pantry.

The Community Center will offer an opportunity for male and female Veterans living in the Veterans Village to spend time together, receive life skills training (cooking, job searches, resume writing, financial services, Veterans Affairs programs, etc.), conduct peer led support groups (for PTSD, AODA, AA, NA, etc.) among other opportunities. There is a separate room that is available for the peer led support groups that will allow for more privacy.

At the Outreach, we do not want the tiny homes to be a place to hide. The goal of the Community Center is to encourage the Veterans to step out of their tiny homes and into a community setting where they can interact with one another to help with their transition from homelessness. With the access to the facility, skills training, and interaction with other Veterans we hope to complete our mission to assist homeless and at-risk Veterans strive for normalcy in life and end the homeless cycle.
