October 2015

We would like to share our October numbers with you. The work we do here at Veterans Outreach of Wisconsin is only possible with your help. We would like to thank everyone who donated and or volunteered. We had a very busy month of October, along with serving veterans we also moved to a new location. We can now be found at 2234 Northwestern Ave. For those who have been at our previous location we have just moved across the parking lot. We could not have gotten everything moved and set up without the help of a few awesome volunteers, so again thank you.

Our food pantry had 89 visits in October with a total of 3,608 pounds of food given to veterans in need. That brings our year to date total to 725 trips through the food pantry and 18,025 pounds of food distributed.

We helped in furnishing 20 homes in October at an estimated $5,193 value of home furnishings

Why we do what we do.

We received this letter from a veteran we had the pleasure of meeting and working with. It's times like this that everything is put into prospective as to why we do what we do here at Veterans Outreach of Wisconsin.

Jeff,

A little over a month ago I started this journey in search of a service dog. I honestly thought that it was going to impossible since I was turned down by the Millwaukee VA and by the Racine county veterans representatives over at the workforce development center for assistance in obtaining a service dog. Three years ago when I was discharged from the Marine Corps I had faith that the Va would help me on the path to recovery but in the end all the the Va has done is made my life more stressful. I appreciate and I am very thankful that the Veterans Outreach is there for the Veterans in Racine. I came you guys when I needed furniture for my apartment and for food when money was tight and helping me find a training organization for my service dog. The veterans outreach has given me hope and relief anytime I've contacted you guys and myself and family are seriously thankful for everything that you guys have done for us. I'm at a lost for words on how thankful I am for the donation form Veterans  of America. I look forward to talking with you thank you again Jeff.

We where able to team up with Veterans of America to help offset the cost of a PTSD service dog for James.

Monthly update for July 2015

July has been one of our busiest months to date. We are pleased to announce that we have teamed up with Feeding America food bank which enables us to make your donated dollar to our food pantry go a long way. We had 70 visits to our food pantry in July totaling 1,750.6 pounds of food; with your help these veterans and their families received much needed food and hygiene products.

We also had 46 veterans come to our outreach for furniture and home furnishings, seven of those being complete homes furnished. Four of the seven where families with children.

Thank you to all of our supporters and donors, we couldn't do it without your help!!!

Service dog for local veteran

With the help of our supporters we where able to help a local veteran named Jimmy who is  suffering with PTSD get in contact with a local organization to start training with a service dog. We are once again asking for your help in locating a dog. This organization will train both Jimmy  and dog at the same time to ensure his needs specifically are met. We are looking for an Anatolian Shepard mix or German Shepard mix age 1-2 years old, preferable male. These breads are preferred by the trainers to meet the needs of the veteran. If anyone has any information on a lead please contact us. [email protected] or 262-221-8350. PM on facebook

Thank you all once again for showing your support for our veterans!!!

Food Pantry

With summer in full swing we have been very busy here at Veterans Outreach of Wisconsin. We have been able to reach out to more veterans in need to make them aware of our services. Our food pantry is serving more veterans than ever before and we would like to ask for your help. We need to restock our food pantry. We are looking for groups or individuals who would be willing to host a food drive, or simply donate non perishable food items to V.O.W.  Please Be A Hero To A Hero and help us serve those who served. Thank you all for your support.

May update

During the month of May with your help we were able serve 21 veterans with home furnishings. Three of which were female veterans and four families with children. Our food pantry provided 44 veterans and their families with meals. Thank you for all your donations to make this possible. If you would like more information on how you can Be A Hero To A Hero please contact us today. Thank you all for your support and for supporting our veterans!!
